The Proceedings continue!

Wed 2/20 8:00 PM Berkeley Arts [2133 University Avenue Berkeley]
8 pm Eli Wallace – solo piano;

9 pm Lords of Outland: Rent Romus – alto, soprano, C-Melody saxophones; CJ Borosque – trumpet, electronics;
Ray Schaeffer – bass; Philip Everett – drums
We’ll be playing a series of compositions based on the writings of San Francisco experimental psychologist Dr. Charles Ponce who had written a number of essays on what he termed Blade Runner Psychology as well as the beginnings of a science fiction book. This is a work in action, so some of the tunes we played back in November have been rearraged and we have a few ones as well…

“On the flip si…

“On the flip side of growing pains, you’ve got plain old pains growing. Rent lances them with blazing sax, and on this release the crisp use of electronics sets things in stark relief… Stellar unions include “Sledge of the Hedge”, where it feels like contact triggers are launched on drum strikes, but it ends up with a smoldering finish over static sparks.”

Lords of Outland, Thee Unhip

Lords of Outland, Thee Unhip

The latest album, Thee Unhip available @ Amazon and also Amazon mp3 as well as other download services.

NineWinds and Edgetone team up to release the latest release from Lords of Outland, a collective of like-minded musicians focusing on modern jazz, free jazz, and sound art. “Thee Uhip ” explores the creative process and the art of the thematic.

Thee Unhip where will we go? to the land of the unhip where cars are beasts beating on fingers of solid cement and concrete.
Every musical moment is a struggle long tireless days long winding stairs no love from audiences that talk loudly and pay only in shadowy smiles the days of work that turn into nights in far flung places playing long notes in warm sunridden bars where the rooftops are leaking.
In my sleep I dream notes that have no name…
Poem by -CJ Borosque

The Proceedings of Dr. Ke

Starting Nov 18, 2012 and moving through the summer of 2013 the Lords of Outland will be presenting “The Proceedings of Dr. Ke”.
In 1995 Rent Romus created a series of compositions based on the science fiction writings of San Francisco experimental psychologist Dr. Charles Ponce who had written a number of essays on what he termed Blade Runner Psychology as well as the beginnings of a science fiction book. After reading these Romus completed the original suite of music entitled “the Proceedings”. Although a few of the pieces have been played outside of their original context over the years, the entire suite had only been performed in 1996 at the original Stork Club in Oakland California.
The Lords of Outland will revisit and reinvent the series for the first time in sixteen years debuting new works in conjunction with the original suite in order to document and produce a vinyl LP/CD combination in addition to digital download. Stay Tuned!
